Yanga SC continued to prove their dominance in the NBC Premier League after securing a 2-0 victory over Mashujaa FC in a match played in Kigoma, a result that has strengthened their position at the top of the standings.
The first goal for Yanga SC came in the 28th minute through midfielder Mudathir Yahya, who scored with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area after receiving a well-timed pass from Prince Dube.
The first half saw Yanga create several more chances, but Maxi Nzengeli and Dube failed to convert key opportunities that could have given their side a more comfortable lead early on.
In the second half, Yanga appeared to reduce their intensity, allowing Mashujaa FC more control of possession, which made the match more competitive as the hosts searched for an equalizer. However, Yanga’s defense remained solid and dealt effectively with most of the opposition’s attacks.
As the match approached the final minutes, Yanga added a second goal through their captain Bakari Mwamnyeto, who finished clinically after Mashujaa FC defenders failed to clear the danger in their box.
The victory sees Yanga SC further strengthen their lead at the top of the league, now holding a five-point gap over their traditional rivals Simba SC after reaching 63 points.
Simba are expected to face Pamba Jiji FC in a match scheduled for Sunday.
In an earlier fixture, Mbeya City FC recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Mtibwa Sugar FC, a result that keeps their hopes alive in the fight to remain in the top flight next season.
