Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva on a free transfer following the end of his nine-year spell at Manchester City.
The 31-year-old has agreed to join the Spanish giants on a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year. Negotiations between the two parties are understood to be complete, with an official announcement expected after Silva finishes his commitments with Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mourinho's Influence
One of the key factors behind Silva's decision to move to the Santiago Bernabéu is said to be the presence of fellow Portuguese coach José Mourinho, who has reportedly played a major role in pushing for the transfer since returning to Real Madrid.
Mourinho is believed to have identified Silva as one of his priority targets to strengthen the midfield ahead of the new season.
End of an Era at Manchester City
Silva leaves Manchester City as one of the most successful players in the club's history. Since joining from AS Monaco in 2017, he made 460 appearances, scored 76 goals, and provided 75 assists while helping the club win 20 major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and multiple Premier League titles.
During his final season at the Etihad Stadium, Silva captained the team and helped City secure both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup before deciding to pursue a new challenge outside England.
Real Madrid Beat Barcelona and Atlético Madrid
Silva had previously been heavily linked with moves to Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. However, Real Madrid reportedly entered the race late and successfully outmaneuvered their La Liga rivals to secure the midfielder's signature.
Several reports suggest that Silva even withdrew from a preliminary agreement with Atlético Madrid after receiving Real Madrid's offer, ultimately choosing a move to the Spanish capital's most successful club.
