Amin Omar Makes History as He Gets FIFA World Cup 2026 Appointment

The referee who officiated the Kariakoo Derby on June 25, 2025 between Yanga and Simba last season, Egyptian international Amin Omar, has made history as one of Africa’s referees selected for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Omar will serve as the center referee for the match between South Korea and the Czech Republic, scheduled to take place on Friday, June 12.

This appointment places him among Africa’s top referees to be trusted with matches at the global tournament hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Amin Omar is also expected to be among the referees assigned to some of the most important fixtures of the 2026 World Cup.

In the same match, Omar will not be the only Egyptian official involved. His compatriot Mahmoud Ashour will also be part of the officiating team, serving as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
