Azam FC Coach Florent Ibenge Among Final Five Candidates for Mali National Team Job

Azam FC head coach Florent Ibenge is among five finalists shortlisted by the Mali Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) to take over as head coach of the national team, a development that could significantly impact his future at the Tanzanian club.

According to reports from Mali, a total of 28 applications were initially submitted for the position before the technical committee narrowed the list down to five candidates, including Ibenge, who currently manages Azam FC.

Other coaches in the final shortlist include Badou Zaki, alongside candidates from Portugal and Mali, as the selection process moves closer to appointing the new “Eagles” head coach.

AZAM FC FUTURE IN QUESTION

The development has sparked debate within Azam FC, as Ibenge is still under contract which is set to expire at the end of the season, while negotiations for a renewal have reportedly stalled.

If he is appointed by Mali, Azam FC may be forced to begin the search for a new head coach ahead of the next season.

HIS AFRICAN TRACK RECORD

Ibenge is widely respected for his achievements in African football, having:

  • Coached the DR Congo national team
  • Reached major stages of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
  • Won the CAF Confederation Cup with RS Berkane
  • Managed clubs including Al Hilal and AS Vita Club

This experience has made him one of the leading candidates in Mali’s selection process.
