Al Hilal Omdurman winger Jean Claude Girumugisha is reportedly on the verge of joining Libyan club Al-Ittihad in what could become one of the biggest transfer deals involving an East African player during this transfer window.
According to sources close to the negotiations, Al-Ittihad has already reached a personal agreement with the 21-year-old Burundi international, who has attracted interest from several top African clubs thanks to his impressive performances for Al Hilal.
Reports indicate that Al-Ittihad has agreed to pay Girumugisha a signing-on fee worth US$500,000, in addition to a monthly salary of US$80,000, making the move one of the most lucrative deals of his career.
The player is said to have accepted the personal terms of the contract, with the remaining step being an agreement between Al-Ittihad and his current club, Al Hilal of Sudan.
Sources further suggest that the Libyan side is prepared to submit an official transfer offer worth US$2 million to Al Hilal in order to complete the deal in the coming days. If finalized, the transfer would rank among the most significant sales involving a Burundian player in recent years.
Girumugisha has established himself as one of Al Hilal’s key players, earning praise for his pace, creativity, attacking ability from wide areas, and eye for goal.
His performances have attracted interest from several clubs across East Africa, including Yanga SC, which is reported to have inquired about the possibility of signing him before Al-Ittihad moved ahead in the race.
